Help! I am going bald!

Last week I hit 12 weeks out (or 3 months on 10/31). I know I have seen this asked time and time again, but since it didn't pertain to me..YET, I didn't really pay attention. I have been having more and more hair come out in my hairbru****s actually scary. Sort of like having a loose tooth when you are little. I have taken biotin on and off since surgery, I actually started it prior to surgery. I have heard of special shampoos and thickening agents. I would like some opinions of what actually worked for you or just your two cents regarding this issue. I know some people are lucky and don't have the hair loss and I do have some hair that I could stand to lose, but I can run my fingers through my hair and a small wig comes out!! Lol... ok that's exaggerating, but you get the idea. Thank you for your help!

Hi Michelle, I think this happens to the majority of us. I started taking Super Potency 5000mcg Biotin twice a day when I started my Options classes, which was about 8 months before my surgery. I still experienced hair loss, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. It stoped at about the 9 month post-op point. I still take the Biotin.

My fave place: Walmart...lol I think it's $6.00 for like 240 capsules.

You and my husband too, only he did not have surgery! LOL  I had a dream the other night that I had clumps of bald spots in my hair.  Diane C. told me to use Biotin too.  I haven't bought any but I think I will go get some today.

I am going to up my Biotin intake, see if that slows things down. Its not really bad, just unsettling. Thanks Elizabeth!

Unfortunately it happens.  It happened to me after WLS and it happened again early this year when I had a hysterctomy.  I wish I could tell you there was a magic solution to the problem, but there isn't.  Unfortunately you just sort of have to deal with it.

I use Nioxin shampoo, conditioner, scalp treatment and spray on thickener.  I suppose it all helps a bit, but frankly not much.  I had very thin hair to begin with.  I will tell you though, the Nioxin is big bucks.  So if that is a concern, don't even look at this stuff.

What might help is to increase your protein.  It's real important. Hopefully you'll  be one of the lucky ones whose hair grows back in.  I have not been that lucky.  But I just chalk it up to it being what it is.  So I lose my hair.  I can always buy a wig.

Shampoos and stuff don't help, it's not getting to the core of the problem which is the hair folicle.  She has something else wrong, maybe meds, more than likely poor eating habits and maybe malnutrion.  People I cannot stress enough, YOU MUST take ALL your vitamins and you cannot pick and choose. 

I lost mine too Steph, and that hairgrowth happened, but now I am losing hair because of surgery once again.  The meds really are harmful to your system.  Step I think you and I should be rich by coming up with something that really works!

Oh I know the meds and surgeries just mess up the hair completely.  I was hoping some of the hormones they put me on would help, but so far nothing.  I am destined to be a bald old woman.  LOL

Oh well, it's only hair, right.  As for the shampoos.  No, they don't help with hair growth at all.  The only thing they seem to do, is make my hair a bit stronger.  I find it's not breaking off as much and I don't have as many split ends.  The stuff that falls out, however, you are correct about.  The shampoo won't do anything for that.

Maybe we should put our bald heads together and come up with some concoction.  It doesn't even have to work.  We just make people think it works and then we get rich.  I have closets full of stuff that was supposed to do this or that and the only thing any of it did was make the manufacturer money. 

Hope you are recouping after your vacation.  I know you had a wonderful time.  I'm sorry to hear about your little Vicki.  I hope she's doing better.  Let's plan a dinner sometime.  We can celebrate Dougie's retirement.
